Additional CCTV in the Leeton CBD Area

Please consider broadening this discussion to address "promoting" both "safe and inclusive use of public space" and "collaborative approaches to community safety". CCTV might be a useful tool in solving crimes after they have occurred, however there are a range of community-building activities that could address preventing crime.

I feel the main street is pretty well lit and i regularly go for a evening walk there and feel safe.
other times i walk down from the hospital towards Karri road, this area is dark and not well lit and the path is overgrown, once i turn down Karri road the lighting is good

On behalf of Meg- the area around the Leeton Shire Library definitely needs cameras. School holidays, kids hanging around today making mischief in the library car park. It happens a lot!

Laneways and carparks in cbd such as those behind Leeton Hotel and Westpac bank

I would suggest installing sensor lighting in the most obvious & troublesome places (police will tell you where) along with cctv both dummy & real. I realise the cost would be prohibited installing real cameras everywhere so I would suggest that the Police be consulted as where to put what. As a pensoner I do not feel safe walking anywhere at night.

Lanes/streets off Pine Avenue and Kurrajong Avenue. Area around Leeton Shire Library, especially
near the corner of Sycamore Street and Wilga Street. Area surrounding Leeton District Hospital. Parks and playgrounds, especially those inside the town circle but also Enticknap Park and others used by drug users.

We need more cctv. The only people that should be against it are the ones doing the weong thing

In favour of as many CCTV installations as possible to make public safe in Leeton. Police should be able to advice local hot spots of incidents from previous incidents would be a good start. If people want to act inappropriately then they should be caught. Pam & Warren Belford

Such a great idea I’ve asked for cameras at Wamoon area in Park for reasgons of anti social behaviour to make safe public places, people do vandalise our park and Wamoon School has been broken into over the years with computers and students and teachers work destroyed

Yes please & neighborhood street

I believe that the entire CBD could benefit from CCTV installation. As previously stated by Meg, people in their homes close to the street have a feeling of being unsafe. Our schools, hospital zones, homes, parking areas, park, clubs, pubs and businesses would certainly benefit from CCTV. I would also like to see more police 'on the beat'. Council could consider looking at the Broken Windows Theory and how New York City implemented that theory to effectively reduce crime. I would also appreciate it in the CBD of the Yanco community.

My home is in Wilga Street opposite the Department of Housing units. There has been a constant flow over a number of years of violent and any five residents and visitors , drug abuse and constant damage to the building itself and surrounding residences. The road past on wilga street is like a drag strip on Friday and Saturday nights with cars and motor bikes screaming down the road and doing burnouts outside the units. The constant flow of people in and out of the flats on both the wilga street and sycamore street sides would indicate some level of illegal activity occurring. I have bought these concerns up repeatedly with housing and reported violent incidents to police. I have elderly neighbours on both sides who are frightened but hesitant to speak up for fear of reprisals . As well as cctv in the sycamore street car park and sycamore and wilga streets it would be great if council could speak to housing about the people they are housing in this area. We should not feel threatened or afraid in our own homes!
