Consultation has concluded
Leeton Shire Council’s DRAFT Graffiti Management Policy will go on public exhibition for 28 days from this Friday 30th November.
Since the start of 2017 Council has maintained a register of graffiti removed by Council and there have been 12 graffiti incidents registered in Leeton. The vast majority of these were single “tags” and one major instance at Euroley Bridge.
Director Environment and Engineering Peter Keane said that the Policy provides Leeton Shire Council staff and community partners with a clearer framework for responding to and reducing graffiti in the Leeton local government area.
“Currently Council does not have any formal plan or policy when dealing with or reducing graffiti incidents. For a number of years Council has been undertaking a graffiti removal service, the supply of graffiti removal kits free of charge to property owners when requested and rewards for information that lead to a conviction of graffiti.”
“The new DRAFT Policy provides both a proactive and reactive approach towards dealing with Graffiti incidents and enabling the use of Council’s powers and functions under the Graffiti Control Act 2008.”
The DRAFT Graffiti Management Policy will be on public exhibition until Friday 28th December 2018 with submissions from the general public accepted up until 5pm on Friday 11th January 2019.
If no significant submissions are received after 42 days of public exhibition then the policy will be considered formally adopted by Council.
