Changes to DRAFT PAMP Plan

Leeton Shire Council has made changes to the DRAFT Leeton Shire Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP) as a result of an extended public exhibition period that concluded on Friday 12th February.

Changes to the revised document comprise of the inclusion of maps showing future prioritisation works for new footpath and pram ramps (replacing the old tabulated data). All previous survey data has also been removed and published as a separate document.

We have attached a copy of the final DRAFT in the "Document Library" on the side panel of this page for your review.

Once the PAMP document has been adopted by Council at a future meeting, it will be used to identify projects for future financial year capital works programs.

This DRAFT plan has undergone extensive consultation already however if you would like to raise any further comments, please feel free to do so using the guestbook tool below as this will be your last chance to give feedback.

There is inadequate pathway access between Tecoma St and St Francis College and Parkview Public School. It is 1km from Tecoma St to any form of footpath. Please connect footpath from Tecoma St to the path on Canal Ave and to golf club estate so children can walk safely to school.

Taxi rank, taxi parking at supermarkets(wheelchair), some of the ramps are to steep for wheelchairs,,some people need to get in wheelchairs and use the street/footpaths.there are more .

The footpath on the side of the Roxy heading towards bancrofts is terribly uneven and I'm quite surprised that there haven't been reports of people tripping there.

A footpath all the way around the hospital (Wade Avenue and Palm Avenue) to take invalids for a walk around the grounds.

I also think some business houses, should not be aloud to park multiple workers vehicles, in front of there workplaces. it makes it harder for people with prams or Elderly people to get a closer park to a business. It should be patrolled better.

I would like to see better access to the shops in the main street, ty he majority of the shops have a step and if you are in a wheelchair or motor scooter there is no way to access these shops.

Guttering needs to be changed to allow for aged people to easily access footpaths. A lot of the guttering is too high, ie. maple street. Footpaths need to be wider to allow for prams, scooters etc. Speed bumps in more places to slow people down.

More disabled parking, there is only 1 disabled car park at the post office and it is almost always taken. Speed humps at main street - Pine & Kurrajong avenue need speed humps to slow people down.

I would like to see better footpaths in the main street area, they are uneven and to the most able bodied person could be a hazard. I also think that there should be pedestrian crossings across all streets surrounding all schools, not just the streets that get the most traffic. ie: a crossing on Mallee street side of Leeton public school & Leeton high school. That street should also be made one way traffic during school times at least. Footpaths should definitely be wide enough to fit prams, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. There needs to be more disabled parking closer to places of need like community centre, medical centres etc. There also needs to be disabled parking for longer vehicles that have backramps ie: vans and buses.

Footpaths should be wide enough to pass people on mobility scooters & mothers with prams. Also the verge should be built so that when it rains the footpaths don't back up with water and become unusable

Continue adding footpaths to connect to schools/early learning centres. Need more speed bumps in these areas. Signage does not slow people down.

More footpaths in general. Ideally, a footpath on at least one side of every street in the main residential areas.

More pedestrian crossings at the railway line between the Canal St/Vance Rd crossing and the Poplar Ave/Racecourse Rd crossing.

The pathways need to be wide enough to be able to comfortably pass someone riding on a mobility scooter without having to get off the path for them or vice versa. Some of the paths are too narrow including some of the new ones.

A footpath needs to connect the walking track from the Wilga st roundabout to the crossing in Myrtle st at Black Park. When mothers are walking kids to school in wet weather or if they have strollers they need to walk on the road. A path would also connect to the current paths in Yarran st.

I can't stress it enough, to make the share cycle paths effective there needs to be ones leading to the all the schools and to the town centre! Also need places to secure bicycles in town, many modern centres use horse shoe shaped rack running parallel to the footpath therefore not interfering with pedestrian traffic!

Better footpath's and cycling infrastructure would have multiply benefits from less car use, leading to more parking for those who need it along low road maintenance cost as well healthier residents meaning less pressure on our health system!

Accessing some footpaths is difficult for my mum who is totally reliant on a walker, we experiences same issues Libby noted. Disable parking usage is not patrolled and often abused, finding a suitable park is difficult in Pine Avenue and at Post Office. The gutter at the crossing in front of Madonna Place is frequently wet, muddy and or full of leaves, am unable to take Mum across at this spot due to risk of her slipping and falling.

Disability laybacks. Accessing some foot paths with a wheelchair is extremely difficult and at times impossible if the laybacks are in the front of the disable parking areas. EG The Mountford Park Access near Jarrah Mall to the public toilet block - if there is a vehicle in the disabled parking area you cannot access the footpath to the public toilet facility because the layback is directly under the front of the vehicle. The same would apply to prams trying to access this layback. The laybacks in the main street at the side of the disabled parking areas make it much easier to access the foot path, but unfortunately they aren't all on the side of the parking spaces.
